we live in a world that's more connected than ever, but somehow we're all lonely af. it's like we're trapped in this digital matrix, isolated from real human connection. and it's killing us slowly.
loneliness is the silent epidemic of our generation. it doesn't discriminate - rich, poor, young, old, we're all susceptible. but the younger generation–we're getting hit the hardest. us 16-24 year olds are the loneliest generation ever.
so why is this happening? why are we so disconnected from each other? it's not just because of social media or smartphones (although those definitely aren’t helping). it's deeper than that. our society is fracturing. we've prioritized individualism over community, career over relationships, screens over face-to-face interactions.
we've normalized social isolation. we've made it okay to be alone, all the fucking time. but humans aren't meant to live like this. we're tribal creatures. we need belonging like we need air. the truth is, loneliness is destroying us. it's as lethal as chain-smoking. it's wreaking havoc on our mental and physical health. and it's only getting worse.
but, it doesn't have to keep being this way. we’re at a crossroads, where we can set the record straight before this gets even worse.
that's why we’re trying to build something profound. to actually do something about this loneliness epidemic. we’re not another startup trying to cash in on loneliness with a bullshit app that provides a duct tape solution. fuck that. that’s the last thing the world needs.
we're here to bring back in person connections. we're here to help more people realize that life is all about the quality of our relationships. that every interaction, no matter how small, is an opportunity for authentic conversation and real connection.
we want to help people improve their social well-being. with real convos, real connections, real relationships.
so, we started by throwing speed dating and unusual in-person events, cuz why not? getting people face-to-face seemed like a good start. but we quickly realized we needed to go deeper. we needed to build something that encourages high quality in-person meetups. that facilitates face-to-face, but makes it more appealing than swiping a 100 times on an app. something convenient, but also meaningful. which is really fucking hard, but that’s what we’ve tried to do with @peopleforcoffee v0.1.
and if it wasn’t clear already, we're not doing this to get rich. we're self-funding because we don't want to have to answer to someone else while we’re building our vision. we don't want to have to compromise our values or sell out. this isn't about money, it's about making a dent in this huge fucking societal problem.
we got no idea how to make money off this, and honestly, we don't really care. this is about taking a stand against a world that wants us isolated, anxious and glued to our screens. it's about having the courage to connect authentically. and we need your help to do it. so if you wanna be a founding father or mother of this movement, hit us up. let's get out there and spread some belonging. cuz we're all in this fucked up world together.
